Life Is Good But Keys Are A Sham
While I can’t put up exactly what I do for work, I would like to announce that after working on a project for the last year of my life it finally worked! We’re talking 11th hour like you would not believe. Had this not worked this week I, just wittle ol me, would be causing the ship date of my companies next big product to be pushed back until I figured it out. We’re talking a billion dollar a year company being held up by spiff-o-keen engineering wonder Jacques Favreau. I was pretty stressed about this. HOWEVER, it WORKS! I saw it make the specification levels with my own eyes. Dancing and whooping followed. A general feeling of personal worth followed. A general feeling of drunk followed… but not right away because….
For every up there is a down.
Sooooo my keyless entry thing has stopped working on my pimp-mobile…
This would normally not be a big issues because… well you just use the key in the door. Unfortunately Cadillac has their noses so high in the air that they need DIFFERENT keys to use the door and turn the car on. Sadly I am not in possession of such door key. Never had one :(
Donut is here and we decided to try the new battery approach (no luck) the begging approach (no luck) and finally the hitting/jumping on the car approch (still… no luck.) So it was time for a locksmith.
First: Locksmiths charge you between $85 and $150 to come out and open your car. This is the suck.
Second: The guy never showed up. First 50 minutes was my fault, the following 2 hours were his. Promised to call me back this morning to set up a time to do it (around 9.)
Third: He never called.
So that was less that optimal.
I had always figured that AAA didn’t allow you to do the whole sign-up-and-get-assistance thing because that doesn’t seem money-safe. HOWEVER that is NOT so. I called AAA this morning. Got a policy number over the phone for $67 bucks total. A very nice guy showed up and popped my lock in about 30 seconds (“Locks are only good for keeping drunks out.”) and I can do that 3 more times this year! That or get towed. Or get nice discounts on rental cars and what have you. I was totally floored that for LESS than the freakin’ shady local guys you could get this kind of service. I am a fan.
Update: The car has a dead battery (lights? perhaps. I don’t know and I fiddled with the knobs before I looked at what they were set at) which, and here’s the great part, MEANS I CAN’T POP THE TRUNK TO GET MY JUMPER CABLES OUT!
Sigh… oh well. I’m going to go have champaign in the desert and celebrate.
